The problem it solves

Anyone who has worked in a ward knows how quickly a mixed-up waste bin becomes a headache. Dressings, gloves, empty vials, needles and sharps all end up together, and someone has to deal with it later. Segregating waste where it is generated is safer for staff and makes disposal much easier.

This trolley puts three separate bins on one mobile frame, so the right container is always within arm’s reach during rounds, dressings, or procedures.

What’s in the design

Three colour-coded bins. Blue, white and yellow, so staff can tell them apart at a glance, even in a hurry. Which waste goes into which bin depends on your hospital’s biomedical waste policy and local regulations, so please follow those.

Foot pedals. Step on the pedal and the lid opens. Nobody has to touch the lid with a gloved or dirty hand, which cuts down cross-contamination.

Stainless steel trolley frame. Steel is easy to wipe and disinfect and doesn’t rust the way painted metal can in a damp, frequently cleaned environment. [Confirm grade, e.g. SS 304.]

Castors. The trolley rolls smoothly across ward floors. [Confirm: locking castors? Size?]

Push handle. One end has a handle, so a single person can steer it comfortably.

Where it’s used

Hospital wards, operation theatres, ICUs, dialysis units, pathology labs, clinics, dental practices, and nursing homes. Anywhere biomedical waste is produced and needs to be sorted on the spot.

Cleaning and care

Wash the bins regularly, and wipe the frame and pedals with a suitable disinfectant. Empty each bin as per your hospital’s schedule and never overfill it. Check the pedal mechanism and castors occasionally and clear any debris caught in the wheels.
